I feel it is sufficient to have written reports at the moment: these seem to suit both me and my tutor. Overall comments from Michele are that she can see I have put good effort into part 2 , with a developing and more secure voice.
Going forwards it is noted that it wold be good to seek out not just other agreeable views, but also ones in opposition, to develop depth of research. I have begun to do this, I have many many notebooks which are constantly scribbled in!
I am being careful to introduce the subject matter in my blog posts: I have been a bit guilty of being a bit bloggishly informal, I think: forgetting that I still need to lay the framework for what I’m writing about.
I need to stay consistent when writing longer pieces: to maintain a clear academic voice. I have a feeling that part of this is the nature of writing blog posts: I tend to write straight onto the computer and edit as I go. I might return to the old fashioned method of planning and writing on paper then transcribing onto the computer: at least for assignment pieces if not the exercises. This is what I have done in the past.
I am to keep a seperate, UVC specific sketch-book; but am having problems with firstly deciding what should go in it, and secondly finding the time. I will look into this, possibly through the email group to see what my peers are doing.
I need to seek out Talliaferro’s book on Aesthetics.
Time turns out to be an unexpected issue: not so much the lack of it, as the management of it. I want to read everything there is to read, I want to write loads and probably write too much and go off on tangents. If there is an interesting off-shoot, I need to park it and use it as a further research point. I am very guilty of being a bit over-enthusiastic sometimes, and need to remember to find the time, or at least factor it in, to be a maker, which is the reason I wanted to do this degree in the first place!
